Healthy Living: Why Make Your Diet Gluten-Free?

Many foods contain gluten. The substance is present in both wheat or non-wheat products, including grains, bagels, cakes, doughnuts, cookies, and many condiments. Gluten, by definition, is a protein composite that gives the dough its elasticity—helping it rise and keeping its shape.

Gluten may not be something people should be worried about—but for some, it could be a problem. Individuals diagnosed with gluten sensitivity and celiac disease should avoid gluten in their diet.   • Reduces inflammation. Gluten-free diet has been proved to ease inflammatory symptoms of autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Crohn's disease.
  • Induces behaviour improvement in autistic children. Autism has been linked with gluten-sensitivity, as well. Autistic children eating foods with gluten have been found out to have extreme gluteomorphine levels in their bloodstream. Gluteomorphine is believed to cause autistic symptoms.
  • Increases energy levels. People who consumed large amounts of gluten-rich foods have claimed to feel sluggish for days. This is probably the reason why these individuals have opted to remove gluten-containing foods in their diet. Eventually, they have reported decreased instances of stress and fatigue.
  • Improves well-being. Eating such foods at a minimum makes individuals load more fruits and vegetables in their diet. Such food preference provide more nutritive value to the body.
